Site-to-site VPN's do not require any additional licensing.
- The ASA 5506-X includes the Base or Security Plus license, depending on the version you ordered. The Security Plus license provides more firewall connections, VPN connections, failover capability, and VLANs.
- CISCO ASA 5506-X Appliance with Security Plus license for High Availability, 3 DES / AES (ASA5506-SEC-BUN-K9) Security: Triple DES, AES; Type: Wired.
- ASA 5506-X - Licensing. When you apply the Protect + Control license that comes with any ASA with FirePOWER Services it does not expire. Note that your entitlement to download and Geolocation, Snort Rules and VDB updates is not included perpetually but rather requires having an active IPS license.
- The Jabra LINK 14201-43 enables remote Electronic Hook Switch Control (EHS) with Jabra wireless headsets and the Cisco Unified IP phone 6945, 78xx, 79xx and 88xx series. Jabra wireless headsets with EHS functionality boost productivity as they provide the users with the ability to answer and end a call, while away from their desk.
You are going to need an AnyConnect license to enable SSL VPN's. There are two versions of Anyconnect:
AnyConnect Plus:
This license is equivalent to the older 'AnyConnect Essentials' license. It also comes bundled with VPN functionality for PC and mobile platforms as well as Cisco phone VPN.
AnyConnect Apex:
This is equivalent to the older 'AnyConnect Premium' license. This license supports all the same features as the 'Plus' license. The major advantage of the 'Apex' license is that it supports Clientless SSL VPN. This means that an end user with a PC does not have to download a client to reach the VPN because the VPN is browser-based.

These licenses come as a subscription based for 1,3, or 5 years which come bundled with a SMARTnet. The Plus license also supports a perpetual license but will require a separate SMARTnet which is required for software access and technical support.

Hey,
Currently our retail business run the ASA 5505, when the firewall dies, I replace them with the 5506-X and a license for firmware upgrades, reason we don't upgrade them all at once is because we have 60 properties and its quite expensive bundled with license needed for firmware upgrade and switch.
I was thinking of switching over to Fortigate 60D.
One of the reason is because the retail stores are small, only have 2 computers and 2 printers. The only thing setup on the 5506 is a site to site connection to our data center for AD/Fileserver, one ACL for port forwarding, QoS for VOIP and thats about it. URL filtering is done with Sophos anti virus.
So im thinking if Fortigate 60C/D is as reliable as the ASA 5506-X, what's the point of spending so much money if we won't benefit from firepower.
Any suggestions, comments would be appreciated.
The only thing that would keep me going from Fortigate is familiarity I built with configuring ASA's, but I hear Fortigate is much easier.
Does Fortigate require licenses for every single feature as well? Or is it all included?
Also which Fortigate device would you recommended for a retail office with about 2-3 computers, 1 or 2 printers, 2 voip devices. Would need PoE variant as we use point of sales terminals, unless if its recommended to use an external switch?
